hi, my intro post is up there somewhere but i can never resist the urge to gibber on about the Vmax
i've had mine for well over 10 years and ........
it will chew rear tyres at a rate even i didn't expect
it handles like a bag of sh1t
it is uncomfortable
it has no appreciable braking ability
it drinks fuel like a v8
it will overheat when it feels like it
its massively complicated
its seriously heavy
but.....
it accelerates like nothing else i've ever ridden ( looking forward to seeing how the zzr compares) and thats pretty much all i've ever wanted, never could go round corners fast
with suitable modifications most of the above can be addressed
its got gas assisted shocks and rebuilt forks
hayabusa brakes on R1 discs
braided lines
decent tyres
corbin seat
forward controls so i'm not sat all hunched up and getting cramps in my knackered knees and ankles
decent lights ( except for indicators, they're rubbish still)
might try and get some pics up when i get home
cheers, spotty
I can lock the wheel if I choose and you get used to the feel. I also keep mine original from the outside. I have progressive springs in the front with a matched rear shock both from Hyperpro but you cant see them! Ha! Ha!
Fair enough but I always feel too much brakes is never enough
I was thinking about upgrading the brakes on the ZZR as well but in the end decided against it. I have found that if serviced regularly they are ok. They do go off quickly. The are not in the same league as my ZX14 but they stop me quick enough
1988, the earlier model with the skinny forks and crap forks, at least I've fixed the brakes
I started off putting R1 discs with 4 pot calipers with the stock m/C and ended up going for 6 pot Hayabusa calipers and m/C. It's hard to believe the difference it made, putting a radial tyre on the front made it better again
They are a fun machine no doubt. The ZZR will surprise you. What year is your Vmax?
