Hi reference my 97 ZZR1100, I have a slight problem with my bike and wondered if you can shed any light on this...
I started her up the other day from cold and some smoke appeared from the right hand side fairing followed by lumpy tick over and puffing sound from lhs exhaust. Like a misfire.
Now she refuses to tick over....I’m thinking fuelling issue although the carbs have been sonic cleaned or ignition coil?
Hope it’s nothing too sinister!
Regards. Mark
Thanks mate
I have a Haynes manual but I’ll download the service one...

Some people use a fuel stabilizer to stop the problem. Because of the weather here I ride regularly so it only happened to me once. Concentric adjusters. Do you have a service manual. Worth their weight in gold and downloadable free?
Yeah mate spot on. That’s my next task to drain the tank as check out the carbs....When I bought it in December it had a full tank so I reckon the fuel has been in there between 4-6 months. Next job is to fit Goodrich hoses, check rear shock and rotate the councentric thing...if that’s the correct spelling! 😊
How long has the fuel been in the tank?
That sounds very similar to the issues I had because of fuel going bad. Mine was missing on one cylinder, would not idle, and generally was a bag of shite. Cleaned out all the jets which had become blocked and it was fine again.
Yeah it turns over and I had it barely running but it was coughing and splutter like it’s running on three cylinders...
The 11 is a bugger if the fuel is left in the system and the bike is not run for a while. It is the ethanol that really causes problems. I recently had to do my carbs again because of this issue. The smoke could be for any number of reasons. It could be overflow pipes incorrectly routed, oil on the exhaust pipes. The bike is turning over but not starting?
Hi mate, have you removed the fairing so as to see where the smoke is coming from? What happens if you increase the revs? Has the bike been stationary for a while? If so for how long?
