g'day, new to the forum, been riding for close on 40 years and just scored me a 92 zzr1100c ( in pieces but getting back together)
i've got an 88 Vmax which has copped all the usual modifications, hayabusa brakes, seat, supertrapp exhaust, lights ( that actually light stuff up), forward controls etc
had it for well over 10 years and so far have only blown up one motor
i got the zzr as a swap for an old sohc 750 honda and when i got it it had had a new crank, bearings and one piston/rod installed. the owner , who i know from honda 4 websites, had lost interest, pretty much the same as i had with my honda, which was being transformed into a trail bike
the motor was nearly back together, needed brakes, fork seals, body repairs, tyres and a good cleanup
i've finished the motor , new brake pads, wheel bearings, fork seals, tyres ( shinko's), cleaning, greasing and painting as i go
it's had new brake / clutch lines and levers ( in green naturally)
motors back in the frame ( no-one told me to attach all the oil lines BEFORE doing that...) so at the moment i've had to take the oil cooler, radiator and exhaust back off to get to all the oil lines and had to wait until new sealing washers turned up so that should be sorted soon enough
next main job is the bodywork , every panel had some damage so i've repaired them all from the inside, got to sand down and fill from the outside then paint, which will probably be satin black with kawasaki green logos, still not entirely sure where all the bits go but i'll work it out. i've never had a fairing'd bike before so its a bit of a learning curve
i have no idea if i'm even going to fit on the bike ( i'm 6'5" and as homer says 'a husky gentleman' but i've always wanted a zzr since reading about the lunacy years ago in Performance Bikes, so when the chance came up i couldn't say no ( and surprisingly mrs spotty didn't say no for me)
if i do keep it then bigger brakes are a sure bet, even if i have to rob them off the vmax and put the gsxr calipers back on that
i shall get some pics up when i get home as they're all on my phone and i'm using a work computer to do this
cheers, spotty
How is it going mate?
This weekend the job ahead is the throttle cables, I was at them for a couple of hours last week and they still won't return
I shall persevere
Let me know how you get on with that mate. They can be a pain in the backside!
I have checked the rad hoses and they look ok but the plan is to get silicon hoses anyway
The fuel lines aren't an issue yet, gotta get the tank sorted first
When I purchased mine it had very low mileage and looked good however I had huge issues with it. All the fuel lines and coolant hoses looked fine but were all rotten. They all went within the first few months. In the end I had to change everything. If you look at the blog pages you will see the history. If they have not been changed you might want to check them.
The C models had an issue with the gear change between first and second however with that mileage it should have been done a long time ago. The cam tensioner will also have been changed I expect. The other common fault is the shims. Many owners do not check them or change them when required. I came across one where the shims had be hand filed from rough cut steel and of course they were far from flat. You could not make it up. Otherwise the engine is pretty bullet proof with many owners doing over twice your indicated mileage with no issues. The cush drive can perish quickly and many owners do not grease the linkages leading to to much movement that can really affect the stability. Fork seals that have gone will affect the high speed cornering as the bike will start to bounce( not fun at high speed Ha! Ha!)
From the Speedo, over 100K....
But the only thing that hasn't been gone over is the rear shock so it should be ok
The only this I really need is a new tank, mine has a few more holes than Mr Kawasaki originally intended and is lined with a thick coating of sludge
Keeping my eyes open for one but at worst I will cut it open and redo thr underneath in new metal
I bought another headlight and some bodywork but mostly I've just used what I got with the bike
You are correct mate, but there are plenty of spares for the C models online and I suspect there are quite a few places to get spares in Australia. What sort of mileage has it done?
My ZZR is a 93 D1 model. A little different from yours
Hi mate, she looks in decent condition. The fairings are not to tricky. Is that the original pipes I see?
Let's see if I can get some pics up
