Following and then going past a Kawasaki 1000

I topped to ask a chap on a Kawasaki 1000 for directions and he seemed fine however when the lights changed I followed him for a short while and his cornering was strange to say the least. I decided to go around him on the bend as I did not want to follow him any longer. Strange. Was he just a new rider I wonder.
